Egypt is getting closer to a new era of fast and modern travel. The first 660 km high-speed rail line will connect Ain Sokhna, Cairo, Alexandria, New Alamein, and Matrouh, with 21 stations linking some of the country’s key destinations.
The line will connect major tourist destinations, ports, industrial zones, and new cities, making it easier to combine different parts of Egypt in one journey.
The first line will operate with 15 high-speed trains, 34 regional trains, and 14 freight locomotives, creating a modern network for both passengers and cargo.
Some of the expected travel times:
Cairo → Alexandria: 1 hr 25 min
Cairo → New Alamein: 1 hr 40 min
Cairo → Matrouh: 2 hrs 35 min
Ain Sokhna → Alexandria: 2 hrs 5 min
Alexandria → Matrouh: 1 hr 15 min
With work progressing on the stations, tracks, electrical systems, signaling, and control technology, trial operations are getting closer.
